Sneak preview of a world map

I’m creating the world map for a new online fantasy game by GAD Games called Ilkor: Dark Rising. The brief was to create a map in a style similar to the iconic Middle Earth maps. Here’s a low res (<9%) preview of the map in progress:

It’s a slightly different style from my normal work and there’s very little room to hide when all you have to work with is line art, but I’m really pleased with the result. And yes, all of those sea ripples were drawn individually, by hand.

This map looks great! I have really taken a intrest in cartography, and i enjoy drawing the maps while I have free time. I draw them by hand and find it more fun that way. The one problem i have found is that I can never decide whether to draw the maps at a world level were the cities are indicated by a dot, or whether I should draw them where you can see a few buildings here and there in the city to represent its, wealth, culture etc. (similar to the map above)
I tend to prefer the second method, but im not sure. Could i send you a map by email and you could give me some tips and methods on improving it.
    Thanks again.

Mostly world maps are so zoomed out that a dot is the only way to represent the cities. However if you go with stylised buildings then you can add a real flavour to the map, though you lose a certain realism. Please do send the map over, I’ll be happy to provide feedback.
